The Malcom Garden
An Outdoor Science & Education Classroom at
John S. Malcom Elementary
About Us
Our school garden is lovingly run entirely by devoted volunteers.
We strive to create memorable, educational, and meaningful opportunities and experiences for all of our Malcom scholars.
We feel fortunate to have this beautiful garden space available on our campus and we are dedicated to using it to it's full potential to enrich the lives of our scholars.
In the garden, scholars learn responsibility as they develop an appreciation and connection to nature. We compost, vermicompost, reuse, recycle and practice water conservation. We grow vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers using only organic gardening methods and our scholars partake in each and every step of the process.
Valuable Lessons
The garden curriculum incorporates State learning standards and S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) into unique hands-on experiences for our scholars.
Lots going on in our garden...
We are a Certified Butterfly Way station
We are proud to be a Certified Butterfly Way station here at Malcom! We provide host plants for butterflies to lay their eggs on and caterpillars to eat. We grow nectar rich flowers to feed the butterflies. Stop by the garden and learn about the different host plants that attract specific butterflies...we have many! If you are lucky, you may even spot a caterpillar, chrysalis or a butterfly fluttering around!

Farm Stand Sales
Purchase Fresh, Pesticide-Free vegetables, flowers, fruits and herbs grown by our very own Malcom scholars! Our Farm Stand is student run and the herbs and vegetables are picked from the Garden the morning of the sale. Super Fresh and Great Prices. We SELL OUT QUICK! Keep a lookout for Farm Stand Sale announcements throughout the school year.
